A Windows Fan’s Review of the iPhone

As I sit here, browsing through the app store yet again, I can’t help but think how much more enjoyable this experience is than any phone I’ve used before.  Everything is so smooth, and so reliable.  It all just works.

Now, this isn’t coming from some Mac fanboy that is just looking to push an agenda, because I despise Apple computers.  They’re overpriced, and the operating system has never really caught on for me.  If anything, I’m a Windows fanboy (Windows 7 rocks).

But, where Microsoft has been successful with their computer operating systems, their work in the phone OS department has been much less rewarding.  Clunky, crash-ridden operating systems that felt more like phones than mobile computers.

And that’s where Apple takes the cake, in this race.  Everything on the phone moves and slides around smoothly, and crashes are rare.  The new OS4 also adds support for multitasking, which was one of the phones major weaknesses.

When I switched over to the iPhone, I was worried that not having a hardware keyboard would bother me.  I type a lot on my phone, not just for texting, but also for posting on internet forums, or even writing articles like this one.  However, the iPhone’s virtual keyboard has surprised me.  Within a few weeks, I was typing on it nearly as quickly as I was on hardware keyboards on my old phones, and I was doing it without the added thickness that a hardware keyboard brings to the phone.

So, when you’re in the market to pick up your next phone, don’t dismiss the iPhone just because you’re a Windows fanboy, because you could be missing out.
