Help with Linux please!?

so my friend put ubuntu on my computer, because i had vista and i hated it. but now, i cant watch dvds, i cant sync my ipod, or upload a bunch of pictures at one time on facebook. i cant play the sims 3, and i dont know where some of my pictures went. java doesnt work, and idk why my movie player doesnt work except for movies that are on the computer itself. i cant use amarok to play songs, and i cant figure out how.

can someone help me fix these issues or tell me how to put vista back on my computer? i have all the disks that came with the laptop, but im not sure how to do it all.

please help me!!!!!

Let’s start at the top.

For watching DVDs and videos, install VLC. It’s a great app that can play practically any video file, including DVDs. There’s a tutorial at http://www.videolan.org/doc/play-howto/en/ch03.html – you can also use it to play audio files. Personally, I prefer Banshee for music, but it’s a personal preference.

To sync your iPod, try GTKPod – http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/07/07/how-to-use-gtkpod-to-manage-your-ipod-in-ubuntu/

You won’t be able to play Windows games under Linux, just like you can’t play then under Mac OS. Applications are written for specific operating systems and can’t run on others. You can try Wine, which sometimes allows you to run Windows apps, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

As for the missing pictures, did your friend format the hard drive? If so, they’re gone. Sorry, but there’s no easier way of saying it.

Exactly what kind of problems are you having with Java?

You might have better luck on the Ubuntu forums – http://ubuntuforums.org/
