how to transfer songs from ipod to computer?

Im trying to switch my songs on my ipod to my laptop. I have itunes on there with a few songs on it already, i just dont know how to put all my ipod songs on the laptop without losing them. I plug my ipod in and it comes up under the devices but it wont show up when i go to start>computer…it wont be under devices with removable storages. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
